The Hamakua Coast
All services are available within a 25 mile radius of Honoka`a including a hospital and emergency care with state-of-the-art equipment. Some individuals will find the hospital of extreme interest as it is one of the few that allows and welcomes complementary (alternative) care within its walls. Honoka`a Town itself has a new long-term care hospital and Urgent Care facility.
Within the Hamakua District there are three public schools, kindergarten to junior high and two high schools. Close by in Kamuela are two private schools with one, Hawaii Preparatory Academy, having international recognition.
Guests from the popular South Kohala Resort area are regular visitors to our small community as they make their way to Hilo and the Hawaii Volcano National Park. Many tourists stop in Honoka`a as it is the gateway to Waipi`o, Valley of the Kings, or stop for the delicious malasadas (Portuguese donuts) at the popular Tex’s Drive-In. Our company is located downtown Honokaa on Mamane Street. Can’t miss it if you park in town and walk in any direction for 5 minutes. Lots of shopping is available for the gift minded and a few good eateries with choices of pizza, vegetarian sandwiches or local food. Honoka`a is situated at about 1000 feet elevation.
Our climate is warm and cool. We boast the most wonderful weather on the island with ample rain, lots of sunshine, cool tradewinds blowing and beautiful blue ocean vistas. We are a country town without being too provincial and are very proud of the fact that we have an annual Hamakua Music Festival that has attracted local, national and international musicians. Yet, we continue to retain the small town ambiance which people find very attractive.
